BHS, or the Business-Healthcare Society, is a club at Telfer’s School of Management dedicated to promoting the future integration of healthcare and business. Through promoting the integration of corporate strategies and technological innovation, the organization aims to showcase the interrelatedness of these industries. Through events and initiatives, the club strives to provide business healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to thrive in an evolving industry.

Why is the Business-Healthcare Field Important?

Many individuals are unfamiliar with the business of healthcare, how important can it be? The reality is that these two fields depend on one another to operate efficiently. Envision standing in the middle of a hospital hallway: nurses rushing from room to room helping their patients, surgeons leaving the operating room after wrapping up a liver transplant, and a doctor explaining how prednisone will help with knee pain. Business health professionals manage important tasks and require support to procure the latest technologies in medicine, handle important documents and forms, and develop staffing schedules. Dentists, optometrists, physiotherapists, and physicians all require professionals to maintain leases and keep track of supply distribution channels.

The business-healthcare field plays a crucial role in ensuring medical professionals have the resources they need to provide quality care. Understanding this intersection not only opens doors to new occupations but also a greater appreciation for the systems that keep healthcare running smoothly. BHS support healthcare initiatives by getting involved in community-driven events to promote the integration of the business and healthcare industries.

Upcoming BHS Events

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, in the Minto Sports Complex, BHS is hosting their Charity Hockey Game, in which Telfer students play STEM students to support the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations Canada (UOSSM). This event presents a prospect to foster camaraderie between the two important faculties who play a part in the healthcare industry and network and contribute to an organization that provides medical aid and relief across the globe.

On March 20th, 2025, in the University of Ottawa's 4101 room, BHS's Sell or Cell Networking Event is set to take place. The event will boast a panel of industry professionals to discuss the entrepreneurial opportunities in the business healthcare world.
